FIRST, which stands for “For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”, is a non-profit founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, which focuses on STEM engagement for young people. FIRST provides and designs accessible and innovative programs to motivate youth to pursue their dreams.

Team Impact and Outreach

Over the past few years, various members of our team pursued a mission to spark interest in the STEM fields for the younger generation. The members of Phat Cache have mentored several FLL (FIRST Lego League) teams in the past years, driving interest in these kids to pursue a career in robotics and engineering and return to the FIRST programs in the meantime.

In addition, Phat Cache and JunioTech Youth Development Society have organized various hackathons for both high school and mid-high age groups, to facilitate the interest of these students in various topics ranging from app development to game design.

The 2019 Season

As a rookie team, the 2019 season was quite successful for us. The weeks of hard work we spent on building the robot were not wasted. We ended up finishing 5th at the FRC Canadian Rockies Regional Competition. Along with our great finish, we also won the Rookie Inspiration Award!
